We're reaching out to announce our next project, but first a critical update on QUEERZ!:
QUEERZ! Status Update
We're almost ready to wrap up the game editing phase and start layout! Next week, the first three books that have been released to you as playtest materials - QUEERZ! Player's Guide, QUEERZ! MC Guide, and QUEERZ! Adventure Anthology -- should be ready to go to layout. The final book, the Creator's Guide, as well as the seven extra characters -- should be done by the end of the month.
After that, our graphic designers will produce PDF magic from the finalized texts. We hope to release the game PDFs before mid February, when we launch our next Kickstarter campaign! Once the PDFs are done, we'll go to print. Roughly 3 months later we will ship the QUEERZ! game boxes to your chosen destination (shipping fees and updated addresses will be collected before that). The end of the campaign is in sight, but it's only the beginning of the QUEERZ! game community!

As we're getting ready to wrap up QUEERZ! in PDF and the writing phase on TOKYO:OTHERSCAPE, our writing team will be ready for our next project!
It's been 3 years since the last City of Mist Kickstarter, and we've been itching to launch this one:Local Legends, a book of City of Mist districts and one-shots, is coming to Kickstarter in February!

WHY GET NOTIFIED? Because First Day backers get both early access to the new content via the Son of Oak Codex App and (for physical tiers) two City of Mist dice in a brand new style! Moreover, we will be voting on the 8th district of the book in the first 48hrs of the campaign, so if you want to give your input, you'll want to be there early.
What is planned for the Local Legends Kickstarter?
DISTRICTS!Local Legends will be a new sourcebook for City of Mist. It will include the existing districts but most of the content will be new: expanding on current districts with new Dangers and lore, and adding (at least) two more districts - the long-awaited Chinatown and the 8th District which will be voted on backers. Some ideas floating now are Ocean Heights (did anyone say Anatoli Vidales?) and a fey district in Lakeside Drive... Tell us in the comments: what is your top district to have as the 8th?
ONE SHOTS! In addition, Local Legends will include eight (or more) one-shot Cases, each set in its own district, which will be perfect for a single game night, such as side quests in-between story arcs or when your group has a free night.
NEWACCESSORIES! The Kickstarter will also include a set of accessories for Local Legends including dice in new styles, new pregens (one from each District), a brand new Deck of Local Legends, and more!
STRETCH GOALS! Some of the stretch goals we're planning include additional content and even additional districts, a new soundtrack, and extensive VTT support. Let us know in the comments what other stretch goals you'd like to see!
DAILY UNLOCKS! Another exciting feature we're planning for this Kickstarter is daily unlocks of new content, videos, and polls, so the campaign itself turns into a celebration of City of Mist content. We've waited to do this for a while!

MC Guide Playtest Updated and Adventure Anthology Playtest Copies Just Shared!
Earlier today we updated the MC Guide playtest file with the second adventure, Lab Rats, which continues the story of Diamond Droids. The updated file was sent to all backers from the Basic PDF tier and up.
We also sent out the playtest copy of the Adventure Anthology to all backers from the All PDFs tier and up. The Adventure Anthology features 5 QUEERZ! adventures by Steven Pope, Robin Caulfield , Keith Asada, Sam Kusek , and Lloyd Gyan that are packed with color-coordinated super-sentai action, a ton of opportunities to explore the vibrant world of QUEERZ!, and most importantly -- plenty of moments to let your Rainbow Empathy shine!
What We've Been Up To in 2022
In 2022, we at Son of Oak Game Studio...
Kickstartered the mythic cyberpunk version of CoM, Tokyo:Otherscape
Worked on three games - QUEERZ!, :Otherscape, and the secret next-gen game - all of which will be coming out in 2023! If you haven't backed :Otherscape or QUEERZ!, late pledges are still open.
Developed about four large books worth of content - QUEERZ! three core books and the Adventure Anthology as well as most of Metro:Otherscape and Tokyo:Otherscape, besides lots of other goodies
Created a more adventure-focused version of the CoM engine, titled CoM:Reloaded
Built the Codex App - a new mobile platform for sharing our games with you!

An *almost* final playtest copy of the MC Guide text (pre-layout!) was sent earlier today to all backers who have backed for the Basic PDF and up via DriveThruRPG. Check your inbox and follow the link in the email to download it. We're really happy to send this out to you, so let us know what you think!

The MC Guide contains your first adventure Diamond Droids (a name change to Gyroscopes and Garlands, but keeping with the same premise) and all the rules an MC needs to run this adventure and any other QUEERZ! adventures. The booklet is written in a way that allows your group to play the game as you learn it, alongside the Player's Guide booklet. The MC Guide contains a lot of helpful tips and pointers for the MC on how to run a better game of QUEERZ! through side notes and "MC Skills" boxes scattered throughout the text.
The first Justice Knight you'll face exemplifies how a sort of sweet sentiment can be twisted into some hardcore Ignorance...
In the MC Guide adventure, Diamond Droids, a seemingly ordinary book-signing event gets turned on its head and the Queerz have to save the day from a "mechanical malfunction". They then have to explore a celebrity's mansion to get to the bottom of this ordeal and confront a musical Justice Knight who doesn't seem to know how to let go.
Because we found the story for this adventure so compelling, and couldn't really see how it would fit into a standard 3-5 hour session, we've decided to split it into two adventures. The final version of the MC Guide will therefore contain one more adventure! On top of Diamond Droids, you'll also get part-two of the story -- Lab Rats -- which will expose a high-level Justice Knight who might be able to threat the entire existence of the Rainbow empathy!
Expect some unexpected shenanigans at the opera!
Our new Codex App!
Those who have been following our Tokyo:Otherscape Kickstarter campaign might know that we're planning on launching all digital files for that campaign through an online app we named the Codex App. Once the Codex App becomes active, we'll work on uploading all digital files for QUEERZ! onto there and give all QUEERZ! backers and pre-orders access to theCodex App as well.
The Codex App will allow you to easily access your game files, whether through your computer, tablet, or phone. It has functions for indexing all Themebooks (for character creation), Challenge profiles (so the MC can easily look those up), and it allows you to bookmark content you want to quickly access.
In the future, you'll also be able to use the app to purchase expansions for QUEERZ!, like characters and adventures, as well as any items from our other games, like City of Mist or Metro:Otherscape.
What's Next?
We'll be finalizing the second adventure for the MC Guide, LabRats, and add it to the MC Guide Playtest PDF while we also work to wrap up the Creator's Guide. We're treating the following weeks before the end of the year as crunch time and aim to deliver as much of the texts as we can in their playtest versions, and then push them on to layout!

Hello there Mama Jay's favorite flashy heroes!
It's been a tad too long since we last talked -- so let's fix it right now!
Production is almost ready to go!
Since our last update we've been pushing forward in all aspects of production and it is now almost ready to go.
The creative team (Amit, Eran, and Steven) are finishing editing for all of the guides -- the Player's Guide, the MC Guide, and the newly named Creator's Guide, which will now feature not just content on how to create your own QUEERZ! characters but also how to create your very own QUEERZ! adventures. Working on the Adventure Anthology and learning more about running QUEERZ! adventures, we felt we had to go back and retool some safety tools and add MC guidance to make this gem really sparkle.
Layout has been applied to the Player's Guide (see below), but we're waiting for the other books to close before releasing that PDF, as changes to one book can ripple into another.
Meanwhile, 'non-paper' production is going well -- manufacturing of the Q-Factor Dice was finished last week, the plushies and pins are entering production next week, and the 'regular' QUEERZ! Dice will follow suit soon, all in time for them to combine intoone big mega-zord in the form of the Basic, Core, Adventure, and Fabulous boxes!
Art production is nearing completion. As you saw in the last few updates, Isago has been working on villains, characters, and scenes that are tailor-made for the QUEERZ! RPG. There are only a few pieces of art left that are awaiting finalization of the Adventure Anthology.
Finally, next week we'll receive 'blank samples' from the printer for the many products we want to test out. These blank samples are called that because they are just the print materials without any ink on them. This stage is done so we can assess the quality and durability of the boxes, the books, and the different printed accessories (cards, folios, and maps) before committing to the actual print run.
After this stage is complete the printer will be basically ready for print and will only be waiting for the final layout files from us.
We appreciate your patience so much! We know the game is a little late and we thank you for supporting us as we make it the best game we can.
The final version of the QUEEN EXTRAVAGANZA pin will be more purple and in line with Ab Fab's purple color scheme

We've got a few things to share with you in today's update -- so let's hit it!!
Editing is going into Overdrive!
After we sent the Player's Guide playtest PDF to all backers a couple weeks ago we went into Overdrive, with our chief editor Eran and lead writer Steven blasting through a first edit of all of the QUEERZ! adventures. Meanwhile, Amit is doing his final review of the MC Guide and then moving on to finalizing the Character Creation Guide.
We've started receiving some great feedback from backers on the Player's Guide playtest, which is really helping us shape QUEERZ! into a better game -- so please keep sharing your feedback with us either here or to [email protected]!

What's in the next update?
Production is really moving now -- both on the creative side with texts for the books, character folios, and cards, and on the product side with dice, pins, the plushie and more!
